The Land & Water Co., a sustainable seafood restaurant housed in a historic mansion in Carlsbad, closed last weekend after six years in business. Chef Rob Ruiz told the Union-Tribune he’s working on opening new restaurants in San Diego.

Oscars Mexican Seafood closed its East Village location on J Street. This is shortly after WhipHand, which was in the same building complex, shut its doors.

The owner of Pokiritto has closed both the Little Italy and Convoy locations of the poke and sushi burrito restaurants. He’s rebranding them into Japanese vegan restaurants, called The Yasai.

Dine out for a good cause at “Wasted” this Sunday, October 20, at Kitchens For Good. More than 30 chefs and bartenders from San Diego and around the country are being challenged to prepare dishes and cocktails using food that might otherwise be thrown away.

There’s a new destination restaurant in the Valle de Guadalupe: Lunario. It’s run by chef Sheyla Alvarado and is on the grounds of La Lomita, a biodynamic winery. The restaurant will have four, six and eight-course tasting menus, with dishes like roasted duck with mole, and seabass crudo in mandarin orange and smoked jalapeño aguachile.

The Nolen, the rooftop bar on the 14th floor of the Courtyard San Diego Gaslamp Hotel, unveiled a new look with more seats and a new menu.

Patxi’s Pizza, a Bay Area-chain that cooks up Chicago-style deep dish pizza, is opening in Hillcrest next week. The website says it also has locations planned for Eastlake and Chula Vista.
