Sharp HealthCare has reached its $100 million fundraising goal to support advancements at Sharp’s regional medical centers and specialty hospitals. The campaign was launched at the end of 2010 and concluded Dec. 31, 2016. The total amount raised for the campaign called INSPIRE: The Sharp HealthCare Campaign for Excellence, was $101,735,886. “Sharp HealthCare is truly grateful for the 25,000 contributors to help us continue to transform the health care experience in San Diego,” said Bill Littlejohn, Senior Vice President and Chief Executive Officer, Sharp HealthCare Foundation.

San Diego County Gun Owners holiday party at Alesmith Brewery

The San Diego County Gun Owners (SDCGO) raised $6,000 at its Dec. 13 holiday party which was held at Alesmith Brewery. The funds are used to support educational efforts and gun safety classes. The PAC was founded in 2015 and has over 500 dues paying members. The PAC focuses on advocacy and organizing the gun industry and community to protect the U.S. Constitution’s Second Amendment right to bear arms.

Feeding San Diego

Feeding San Diego raised $700,371, equating to 2,801,000 meals, in partnership withABC10, sister station Azteca San Diego 15 and Live Well San Diego, during the fourth annual Month of a Million Meals campaign. The 2016 holiday push included a live telethon and support from local celebrities. “These meals will make an incredible difference for the 63,000 children, families and seniors we serve each week,” said Stacy Rungaitis, Director of Development and Marketing at FSD. The campaign was supported by Tri-City Medical Center and ESET.

Instant Checkmate participated in a National Hour of Code event with Herbert Hoover High School’s Academy of Information Technology in December, and made a $2,000 donation to Hoover’s AOIT. The Control Group, the company behind the development and marketing of Instant Checkmate, also donated $2,000 to Junior Achievement of San Diego to help support their job shadow and workforce readiness programs.

Barbara Clark Diekman of Oceanside, has received Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women’s Carolyn Helman Lichtenberg Crest Award. She has served women and families for 56 years as a licensed marriage and family therapist, including military personnel, veterans and their families. The Award is presented annually to distinguished alumnae of Pi Beta Phi who exhibit excellence and outstanding leadership in their career or volunteer service to their communities.

Las Patronas Beneficiary Luncheon

On Jan. 18, Las Patronas presented checks to 10 San Diego nonprofits at its Beneficiary Luncheon held at The Marine Room in La Jolla. The 2016 Jewel Ball, “Shangri-La” netted $1,015,00 through a yearlong fundraising effort. The average check given to the major beneficiaries was $39,000. The recipients included Birch Aquarium, Episcopal Community Services, Generate HOPE, Girl Scouts, and The Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation. The 2017 Jewel Ball, “Taking Flight”, will be held on Aug. 5 at La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club and is being chaired by Jorie Fischer.
