Volunteers of America Southwest raised a net of $115,000 during its 19th Annual Celebrity Golf Classic at the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo. Pre-event, LPGA Pro Cheyenne Woods led a putting clinic for VIP golfers, and post-tournament, the 19th Hole festivities included dinner, wine tasting, a live auction, and awards for the golfers and guests. The Golf Classic proceeds will benefit Volunteers of America Southwest’s Hawley Veterans Services Center, which assists homeless male veterans with disabilities.

The California Center for the Arts, Escondido Museum joined Museums for All, a program of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), to increase museum access among people from all backgrounds, especially those who aren’t able to frequent arts and cultural institutions. Museums for All will help individuals and families receiving food assistance, to attend CCAE for free.

The IMLS, a federal agency, also awarded The New Children’s Museum a three-year grant for $249,739. Out of 133 projects in IMLS’s Museums for America initiative, the grant for NCM was the only one given in San Diego County. The project will allow NCM to work with artists and local organizations to implement arts programming in underserved neighborhoods. NCM estimates it will reach nearly 10,000 children and family members, thanks to this grant.

Among the Burn Institute programs benefiting from GHD funds: Camp Beyond the Scars is a week-long summer camp that assists children ages 8 to 17 in coping with the devastating psychological and physical effects of their fire or burn injuries.

The Grossmont Healthcare District is supporting the Burn Institute with a $34,000 grant. The funds will go toward services for burn survivors and provide fire and burn prevention education programs for more than 13,000 East County residents, particularly focusing on preparedness for children, seniors, Latino, and low-to-moderate income populations. The ultimate goal of the Burn Institute is to reduce the number of burn injuries and deaths.

The 39th American Society of Landscape Architects San Diego (ASLA-SD) Golf Tournament, presented by Rain Bird, took place at Maderas Golf Course in Poway. The tournament welcomed 144 players who raised approximately $20,000 for ASLA-SD’s Community Grant, which funds grassroots projects in various San Diego communities.
