San Diego Downtown Rotary Breakfast Club – Once Upon a Time
The San Diego Downtown Breakfast Rotary Club will hold its annual fundraising event on May 3 at the new Central Library in downtown’s East Village. Stage 4 will provide music with food by Waters Fine Catering. Proceeds of the evening support the Club’s philanthropy in San Diego. Those benefiting from the Club include Veterans Village, Senior Community Centers, Father Joe’s Villages and Voices for Children.
Las Patronas has granted $5,591 to North County Health Services Federally Qualified Health Center as their 2014 Spring Minor Beneficiary. The grant will go toward waiting room furniture for the women’s health center at the NCHS San Marcos Health Center. “NCHS is grateful for Las Patronas’ support of our new women’s health center,” Director of Women’s Health Services Operations Christina Schmidt said. “The grant will allow us to provide adequate seating to our patients and provide them a welcoming experience the moment they walk into our beautiful new health center.”
The Neighborhood House Association Chefs Event
The Neighborhood House Association hosted a celebrity chef cooling demonstration and fundraiser on Mar. 23 raising $20,000 in support of Child Nutrition. Several celebrity chefs participated including Deborah Scott, Bernard Guillas and Andrew Spurgin. Sponsors included Barney & Barney, Torrey Pines Bank, SDG&E, The San Diego Foundation and Footprint Film as our production sponsor.
Meal-on-Wheels Greater San Diego received a $70,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation to help meet its goal of doubling daily meal service to homebound seniors living in San Diego’s North and East county rural areas. “We are so thankful for Walmart’s support of our work in San Diego County and especially its contribution to help us expand our service to some of our society’s most vulnerable – homebound seniors living in isolated areas of the region, removed from basic services,” said Debbie Case, President/CEO of Meals-on-Wheels Greater San Diego.

Cinderella’s Attic’s Prom Boutique was held on Apr. 6 at the Courtyard by Marriott San Diego. San Diego area girls were able to attend and find prom formal wear at no charge. The non-profit was founded in 2006 by a San Diego teacher, Kerry Spark to provide free formal wear to San Diego-area high school girls in need. It was the first organization of its kind in San Diego.
The 17th Annual Alzheimer’s Association Art Auction was held on Mar. 21 at the Fairbanks Ranch Country Club. The event raised $150,000 to support families battling Alzheimer’s and advance research for a cure. The evening’s auctions featured artworks created by individuals with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia as well as inspired pairing artworks by local professional artists.

In recognition of May being Melanoma Awareness Month, Art of Skin MD in Solana Beach, will hold its 4th Annual “SolSearch” benefit event on May 1, at 5:30 p.m., at Beachwalk Center in Solana Beach. The event is designed to raise awareness about early skin cancer detection and treatment, as well as raise essential funding for the Skin Cancer Foundation. California Pizza Kitchen is the lead sponsor.
The San Diego Advertising Fund for Emergencies (SAFE) is hosting its 13th annual fundraising party on Apr. 3 at the Ivy Rooftop Lounge atop the Andaz Hotel. The funds raised go to provide confidential financial assistance to local advertising and marketing professionals and their families facing a life crisis emergency. Presenting sponsors are Sycuan Casino, New Car Dealers Association, San Diego Radio Broadcasters Association and U-T San Diego. Other sponsors include Entravision Communications, Nyenesch Printers and California Bank & Trust.
