Yoga is practiced the world over for fitness, relaxation, and spirituality. Bunnies are known the world over as adorable animals. So it should come as no surprise that Bunny Yoga is both beneficial and ridiculously cute. Yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like: a yoga class accompanied by several bunnies hopping around and working on their cobra stretch.
We arrive at the San Diego House Rabbit Society, a nonprofit rescue and educational resource for lagomorphs and those who love them. Before class, we wander through the adoption center and say hello to the rescued rabbits, all nibbling their evening salads.
Class begins with standing balance poses. I tend to topple in tree pose and warrior II. Well, at Bunny Yoga a few wobbles go unnoticed, because we’re all transfixed by the antics of Rachel and Rihanna, two sister buns. As we transition to seated positions, the bunnies—seven or eight altogether—get cozy beside our mats. Giggles erupt as curious buns hop under our backbends and bump our knees with their noses. They’re not as amused as I am when I clasp my hands overhead and lean forward for rabbit pose. Silly human.
To draw the session to a close, instructor Mary Sanders brings out an ocean drum for the savasana. We lie on our backs and imagine we’re at our favorite beach. In my mind I’m listening to the waves at Coronado, surrounded by sea spray and bunnies. I open my eyes and it gets even better: class is followed by a wine-and-cheese happy hour. Bunnies, yoga, wine—I’m living my best life. You might be a downward-facing dog and a few floppy-eared friends short of living yours, too.
