“The energy that you feel by simply taking your yoga practice outside is incredible,” says Giselle Haack, event director for Yoga Rocks the Park San Diego/Carlsbad. “It awakens all my senses and helps me be more present in my practice.”
Yoga Rocks the Park began seven years ago in Denver and was such a hit, it expanded to several cities, including San Diego. The local chapter now hosts events throughout the summer, each attracting upwards of 200 participants or more. Yogis come for a 75-minute outdoor class led by local teachers and accompanied by live music. There’s also a Camp YRP (ages four to 10) that takes place concurrently, and a Wellness Vendor Village afterwards. The final sesh on September 13 will benefit the Sean O’Shea Foundation for youth nutrition and yoga programs.
Haack says that for her, yoga has “played a significant role in managing stress and anxiety.” But practicing outside? Now that takes the cake.
$10 for Camp YRP, $15 for YRP; July 19 and August 2 at Ingram Plaza in Liberty Station and August 16, 30, and September 13 at Cannon Park in Carlsbad.
