San Diego Foundation (SDF) celebrated a major milestone this month: 50 years of regional impact, more than $1.8 billion granted to nonprofits, and official recognition from 15 cities and the County of San Diego, which proclaimed a “San Diego Foundation Day” in its honor. At a May 28 press conference at the Copley-Price Family YMCA, the foundation announced new investments through its ambitious Fifty & Forward campaign, which aims to raise $1 billion and grant an additional $500 million to address issues such as educational access, climate resilience, and family well-being.
SDF was also named Nonprofit of the Year by State Senator Akilah Weber Pierson. As the largest community foundation in the region, SDF partners with donors and civic leaders to advance equity and opportunity. “Every dollar entrusted to us is a vote of confidence in the future of San Diego,” said President and CEO Mark Stuart. Since 1975, that future has included disaster response, early-education funding, and thousands of neighborhood-level partnerships. The next half-century starts now.
