When I started at San Diego Mag in June of 2022 as its digital editor, I envisioned a website that was as dynamic, exclusive, and creative as the stories it showcased. But back then, we didn’t feel ready.
We hadn’t fully built our team and didn’t quite know who we were in this new era of the publication.
In the nearly two years since Claire and Troy Johnson acquired the mag, we’ve staffed up, found the right storytellers on the edit team, beefed up the players on our business side, and moved into a new space in Little Italy. We found our groove.
This spring, we knew it was time to bring our 24-year-old website into the modern age with a brand-spanking new facelift. (Did you know we were one of the first regional magazines to have a website?)
Over the last four months, we have been working with international digital design agency CourtAvenue (one of the best in the industry) to help us see this project through. Each week we met with developers and designers from places like Mexico City and Argentina to create a new home for our content, one that was easy to navigate and beautifully designed.
SanDiegoMagazine.com’s revamp helps usher in the next chapter of the 75-year publication. As your guides to the city, we’re excited to bring you an improved user experience along with a cleaner aesthetic that aligns with our print product—all brought to you by our friends at Belmont Park.
Keep an eye out for a new podcast and video experience soon! Our enhanced pages will be dedicated to showcasing the work our talented team of creatives does at SDM Studios. This is only the beginning for what we have in store for our digital product in the coming years.
Thanks for joining us on this ride. We can’t wait for you to check it out!
