Fiesta de la Vendimia
When: March 14, 6 p.m.
Where: Pisco Rotisserie and Cevicheria, 2401 Truxton Road, Liberty Station & 5970 Avenida Encinas, Carlsbad, CA 92008
Longtime San Diego restaurateur Sami Ladeki has a good thing going with his new partnership—pulling in well-known Peruvian chef Emmanuel Piqueras for Pisco Rotisserie and Cevicheria. Hard to go wrong with his aji amarillo (pulled chicken stew made with pepper-cream sauce). February is Peru’s grape harvest season, and to celebrate they’re inviting BarSol Pisco in to do a three-course pairing dinner. If you’re curious about the spirit (basically distilled wine), this is your chance.
Cost: $99
Saxon Brown Wine Dinner
When: March 20, 6 p.m.
Where: Nine-Ten, 910 Prospect Street, La Jolla
I’m getting tired of singing Jason Knibb’s praises, so I often let others do it for me. The chef at Nine-Ten, if cooking in any other city, would already have a James Beard Award. I hadn’t been back to try his food in a couple of years, but a recent tasting reminded me just how talented he is. There’s a reason most top chefs in San Diego point in his direction when asked for their favorite. For this dinner, he’s inviting Saxon Brown winemaker-owner Jeff Gaffner in to pair wines with each course. Get a taste of what Sonoma can do.
Cost: $125
Collaboration Dinner
When: March 22, 6:30 p.m.
Where: Provisional Kitchen, Pendry Hotel, 425 Fifth Ave, Downtown
If you haven’t seen the Pendry Hotel yet, it’s time. This stunner of a boutique hotel really adds some new life to the Gaslamp. For this collaboration dinner, their chef de cuisine Brandon Sloan will mix and match with beloved Tijuana chef Oso Campos (Tacos Kokopelli). The dinner will focus on the flavors of Baja, with five courses like artichoke cobb with crispy pancetta, black scallop aguachile, and spicy chicken thigh tortellini.
Cost: $95
