With craft beer’s success in San Diego, it was only a matter of time before cideries arrived. The latest is Bivouac Ciderworks, and it’s landed in North Park. Forget the overly sweet commercial ciders you’ve had—co-owner Matthew Austin brews dry, English-style versions, including a pineapple and black sea salt cider, and the “West Coast Tapper,” a hopped cider that’s a play on an IPA.
Acclaimed chef Danilo “DJ” Tangalin Jr. (ex-Whisknladle, JRDN) serves oyster po’boy tacos with pork belly and kimchi, and Jesse Ross (Sycamore Den) created a craft cocktail menu based on brandies and eaux de vie. The room’s a stunning ode to outdoor life, with wood and boulders and a wall of rope knots designed by Tecture (Kettner Exchange, The Patio Group), which glows like a campfire after dark.
