She does cakes like Liberace did coats. Karen Krasne’s Extraordinary Desserts is a San Diego institution, and now the pastry chef has returned to the neighborhood where she started it 30 years ago. Anchoring the ground floor of The Louie—a new mixed-use project from renowned local architect Lloyd Russell—the new location’s main attraction is a 1,200-square-foot patio on Fourth Avenue.
With a long communal table, it’s got room for 65 people to spend quality time with her sweet creations, savory toasts, cheese and charcuterie boards, dips, spreads, and to-go snacks and meals. The bar also has bubbles, wine, and beer with an emphasis on female winemakers and brewers. Let them eat cake.
