Five days before we shipped the December issue, I got to spend 10 minutes with the Charger’s Eric Weddle. That’s right, just 10 minutes to get the perfect shot for our December Q&A. Photog Robert Benson didn’t sweat it. He set up two different backgrounds in a conference room at the Chargers headquarters an hour prior, and when the timer started he turned his photographer charm toward Weddle. We even had time to take him to the practice field for a few shots.

My favorite thing I learned about Eric Weddle: How much he loves his kids—that’s pretty much all he talked about. He even told me he plans to take advantage of his full beard this Christmas when he plays Santa for them. One hundred photos and fourteen minutes later (okay, we went over a bit!), we got the shot we loved ….and a few days later we sent it to press.
