I’m a big fan of Steve Wampler. As far as I’m concerned he’s a local hero, someone who’s inspired countless people in his quest to show that physical disabilities aren’t a limit to what one man can do.

Wampler made national news headlines when he became the first person with cerebral palsy to climb El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. On Sunday, June 2, you can attend a special screening of the documentary Wampler’s Ascent, co-directed by Wampler and his wife Elizabeth.

The screening will be held at 2 p.m. in Coronado, Wampler’s hometown. A question and answer session will follow the film.

I met Wampler last year when we both repelled nearly 40 stories down the side of the Manchester Grand Hyatt. It was an experience I’ll never forget. I was so moved by Wampler’s positive attitude and fearlessness. He completed the 357-foot descent in his wheelchair!

That’s how I know this documentary won’t disappoint. Tickets are going fast. For info, call 619-957-4894 or email [email protected].

June 2, 2p.m., Coronado High School theater, 650 D Ave, Coronado
