The Vision
When the Yi family purchased Red Hawk Ridge nearly two years ago, they envisioned a getaway from the city with their two young children and extended family. Having a keen eye for design and potential, they quickly realized that their newly acquired property could extend well beyond being a family respite.
“The property has a rich story that needs to be shared. In addition to the massive logs that were imported from Montana, we were impressed by the property’s connection to nature and the past. Our children found arrowheads behind a stone hideaway where the native Kumeyaay once hunted deer. Those deer still frequent the grounds.”
For Cassia and Jesse, their vision was clear. And although their professional strengths were in healthcare and not hospitality, the couple ambitiously embarked on a mission to remodel the rustic 27-acre ranch.
The Yis partnered with close friend and respected agent, Tabitha Andrew from San Diego’s Finest Property Management to help realize their vision. Together, they created what has become Red Hawk Ridge Events.
The Log Cabins
The property features two stunning log cabins imported from the Bitteroot Mountains of Montana. “The goal was to keep the bones of the log homes,while updating the interior with fresh paint and resort-inspired accents.”
Receiving inspiration and guidance from her artistic family, (which includes renowned designer, Lea Wilson of One Studio D+A), Cassia led the renovations of the nearly 9000 square feet of indoor space.
Cassia describes the new aesthetic as Rancy Fancy –juxtaposing modern Bohemian with California cowboy.
Providing accommodations for up to 34 guests, the log homes include a cozy bridal suite and a gentleman’s lounge, complete with big screen TVs, leather sofas, a pool table and cigar lounge. Although quite large, the cabins are quaint and stunningly unique, replete with panoramic views that open to Alpine’s pristine mountain air.
The Outdoors
The 27 acre land that surrounds the log homes is a perfect campus for weddings and events.
The space includes two ceremony sites, a star-covered reception veranda, a huge wrap around deck, dance floor, and bar for up to 250 guests. There are walking trails, thoughtfully placed fire pits, heated pool and spa, horseshoe and cornhole pits, and a custom 9-hole disc golf course.

San Diego summers can be brutal. But since the hottest period is typically late summer into early fall, San Diegans still have time to prepare. I don’t buy that—these systems are built to last as long as they’re taken care of.”
There are also a few steps homeowners can take between services to extend the life of their system. Regularly changing a dirty filter—especially if you have kids or pets—and keeping an outdoor unit clean can help head off problems in the future, says O’Connor.
Also, be realistic about whether it’s time to replace a unit. O’Connor likens pouring money into salvaging a faulty unit with patchwork repairs and replacement parts to “tripping over a dollar to pick up a dime.” When one part fails, others are sure to follow, and newer parts may not be compatible with older units. Mauzy recommends homeowners use the 50% rule: If a repair costs more than 50% of the system’s replacement value, and the equipment is over 10 years old, replacement is usually the better long-term value. And don’t forget the ducting. An older house that was built with heat and later had air conditioning added may not have sufficient airflow, regardless of how good the system is.
