Jiwoo Choi, Chef & Owner
At just 23 years old, owner and chef Jiwoo Choi opened Choi’s, a Korean-fusion restaurant that reflects both his roots and his surroundings. Having emigrated from Korea with his family in 2007, Choi blends the familiar flavors of his upbringing with the vibrant mix of Asian, Mediterranean, and Hispanic influences that define San Diego’s culinary scene. The restaurant’s signature menu features standouts like Grandma’s Pork Belly Bossam—a beloved dish inspired by Choi’s own grandmother’s recipe—alongside a special Padres Game Day menu, highlighted by $1.50 oysters from 4 to 6 p.m. In November, Choi’s will celebrate its two-year anniversary by launching an inaugural tasting menu. With its calm, minimalist design, Choi’s offers more than just a meal—it invites guests to slow down and savor the moment together.
