For John Asaro, painting human bodies means merely tapping into muscle memory. The Carlsbad-based artist is renowned for creating romantic realist physiques in color—an approach demonstrated in his new exhibit at Meyer Fine Art this month. The Figure features roughly 50 new pieces exposing ballet dancers’ strength and elegance in motion, including scenes from the ballet Spartacus.
In addition, Asaro will debut a special collection of Amy Winehouse portraits inspired by the late singer’s songs “Back To Black” and “You Know I’m No Good.” Meet the artist at the opening reception on November 18 from 6 to 8 p.m., or marvel at his works November 10 to December 30 at the Little Italy gallery.
