Central California: The New Napa

By Kimberly Cunningham

Central California’s quaint B&Bs and luxury resorts are less of a drive and—dare we say it—less pretentious than Napa. We love CordeValle in San Martin, just 30 miles south of San Jose. The expansive resort has a pristine semi-private golf course (for hotel guests and members only), spacious bungalows, and a mix of casual and fine-dining restaurants with wine lists featuring local vintages. The Sense spa offers a signature grapeseed and cherry bark scrub, a nod to the neighboring Clos LaChance winery, owned by former San Diegan Bill Murphy (clos.com). In honor of California Wine Month, guests can book private tastings with the resort’s sommelier.
