Pier South Resort

Pier South Resort

WHERE TO STAY: The $28 million Pier South Resort has recently opened in Imperial Beach (yes, IB). The rooms are bright, oversized, and right on the water, with floor-to-ceiling windows and private balconies. The beach views can also be enjoyed poolside in a private chaise or during a relaxing cabana massage (available in-room as well).

WHAT TO DO: Just south of the resort, the Boca Rio surf break will challenge the average surfer. Guests can rent bicycles from the resort or go fishing off the IB pier. Tip for parents: Drop the kids off at the Coastal Ecosystem Journey (the LIFE package also provides a morning hike at the wildlife preserve and beach yoga). Baja-Med cuisine is served by chef Ken Irvine at Sea 180 Coastal Tavern at the hotel, featuring 180-degree views of the Coronado Islands and Mexico. As a nightcap, wind down with live music at the pool’s beachfront club. Rooms start at $152. 800 Seacoast Avenue
