Here’s how you can help your child ease the transition.
-
Tour the campus with your child before the first day of school and make sure they know where their classrooms, cafeteria, and gym are located. This way they won’t spend their first days roaming the halls and feeling lost.
-
Encourage your child to try new things, such as arts programs, on-campus clubs, or athletic leagues. This is especially helpful for teenagers who have transitioned to a private high school.
-
Get to know your child’s teacher. Private schools want and encourage parent involvement, so help the teacher get to know the both of you. You should also let the teacher know about your child’s interests and abilities.
