Think you can build the best gingerbread house? Bring an unwrapped toy to Queenstown Public House and find out. The New Zealand-inspired eatery in Little Italy is collecting toys for the kids of the Monarch School. Each toy donor will be given a gingerbread house kit and will have a chance to compete in Queenstown Public House’s fifth annual gingerbread house contest this Wednesday (toys will be collected through Dec. 23). Not to be outdone, the restaurant itself will be transformed into a supersized gingerbread house complete with frosting around the windows.
“Queenstown is a comfortable, family and pet friendly place and we plan to transform into a holiday hotspot, where residents and visitors alike can celebrate the holidays together while giving back to the community,” said Queenstown Public House partner Darren Roach.
San Diego Pride is donating over $340,000 netted during this year’s Pride week, the most successful yet, to 61 LGBTQ-serving organizations in San Diego and around the world. The funds will benefit the most marginalized members of the LGBTQ community—from services for local LGBTQ seniors to a drop-in youth center in Ohio to housing for homeless trans women in Malaysia. Since 1994, community contributions have topped $3 million.
“We know that LGBTQ-serving organizations are chronically underfunded across the globe. This is why San Diego Pride intentionally reinvests proceeds from our annual celebration to show the world that LGBTQ people can come together to support our own community’s health, well-being, and safety,” said San Diego Pride’s Director of Philanthropy Sarafina Scapicchio.
