Innovative Knee Repair Powers a Young Athlete’s Comeback

State-of-the-art knee surgery at Scripps helps a young athlete get back in the game
SDM: Scripps ft Tatum Vedder

Tatum Vedder has been a lifelong athlete. But in September 2019, the life as she’d always known shattered. Tatum tore her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and her meniscus playing in a co-ed volleyball tournament. She spent the next four years in a cycle of surgery and rehab, but was still experiencing pain. Then, Tatum’s physical therapist told her about a seminar he’d attended featuring Tianyi (Tim) Wang, MD, an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine physician with Scripps Clinic, who was highlighting an innovative approach to knee repair that included meniscus and cartilage transplants. Fortunately, Tatum was an ideal candidate. Click here to read more about the innovative procedure and how it finally put Tatum on the road to recovery.
