Nestled in Liberty Station’s historic halls is Liberty Public Market, a vibrant community hub that showcases an array of small businesses and an eclectic array of eateries. For the past decade, San Diego’s pioneering food hall and bazaar-style boutique marketplace has provided locals and visitors alike a venue for family-friendly fun, unique finds, and eats from around the world. And on March 21 and 22, Liberty Public Market will celebrate its 10-year anniversary with exclusive merch and beer collabs, live music, $10 vendor specials, adoptable dogs, and more—all weekend long.

To celebrate Liberty Public Market is to appreciate its history. More than a century ago, the 25,000-square foot space opened as the mess hall and commissary for Naval Training Center San Diego and served tens of thousands of sailors as they prepared for service. After the base officially shut down in 1997, the Spanish Colonial Revival-style building sat empty, a shell of the lively cafeteria it housed prior. In the early 2000s, the former military installation was reimagined as a dynamic cultural district. It has since become a destination for arts and culture, community events, and nightlife.

Its centerpiece, Liberty Public Market—the first food hall in San Diego—was opened in 2016 by Blue Bridge Hospitality (Little Frenchie, Stake Chophouse & Bar, MooTime Creamery, Village Pizzeria). Liberty Public Market has grown into a hotspot for diverse dining with a roster of 36 vendors that spans everything from Mediterranean kebabs and authentic Argentinian empanadas to succulent lobster rolls and mini donuts. It’s also an outpost for local artisans—savvy shoppers can find vinyl records, craft beers to-go, quirky T-shirts, boho-style jewelry, and more. Liberty Public Market’s social hub is Mess Hall Bar, a spirited space where adults can savor rare wines and innovative craft cocktails created by some of the city’s best mixologists without worry while the little ones play nearby.

Liberty Public Market is Liberty Station’s epicenter of community, culture, and cuisine. Come experience it for yourself at Liberty Public Market’s 10th anniversary party March 21-22. For more information, visit libertypublicmarketsd.com/10th-anniversary/.
