Very Important Taco: Chile Relleno Taco at The Rabbit Hole

By Dan Letchworth

The offbeat murals and woodland decor at this sports bar recall a grown-up Alice in Wonderland, with a pet-friendly patio out front. (Dog toys provided!) Most of the dishes are as meaty as the Chuck Norris portrait in the corner—including real rabbit meatloaf—but for those who’d prefer phony coney, the vegetarian chile relleno taco hits the spot.

The huge, deep-fried poblano pepper with lime, cilantro, cabbage, and house tomatillo salsa is rich and zesty, though slightly overwhelmed by its generous Jack cheese stuffing. For a subtler option, ask about the off-menu curried cauliflower tacos with Cotija cheese. Both pair well with a pale ale at “hoppy hour.”
