Borrego Springs’ beloved Casa del Zorro returns to its former glory with a soft re-opening this month following a multimillion-dollar renovation. “We’re restoring it to where it was when the Copleys owned it,” says Jack McGrory, one of the new owners. A new restaurant, the Butterfield Room, is named after the Butterfield Overland Mail stagecoach route that passed through in the mid-1800s. Starting in the $100s-$200 range, room rates are also vintage, down from the previous $300-$350. McGrory’s group also bought the adjacent Copley estate, Happy Days, which can be used for wedding receptions and events. In other words, their casa es su casa.
