Hotel
Gaga for Ganzo
With a name like Hotel El Ganzo, you’d better go big or go home. The new boutique hotel in San Jose del Cabo does exactly that. On top of its three restaurants, full-service spa, and rooftop bar, this small property hosts a film club every Wednesday night and an Artist in Residence program. It even has a recording studio, accessible through a trap door in the lobby. El Ganzo, or “The Goose,” is named for its unique shape and white color. Look for it at the base of the marina. elganzo.com
Airports
The Art of Flying
Recently, the Condé Nast Traveler blog recognized San Diego International Airport as a hot spot for art, alongside cities like Paris, Chicago, and Amsterdam. (Who says we’re a cultural wasteland?) So put your jet lag aside when you land and pay attention to the rotating exhibits. If you need to powder your nose in Terminal 2, check out the new series Donde Esta…? at each bathroom entrance. By media artist Erik Carlson, the looping video clips show surfers at local beaches, behind panes of glass that cloud over in a timed pattern. Best bathroom entrance ever.
