San Diego Fire Fighters were at 110 intersections over the county on Mar. 4 collecting funds to support the Burn Institute’s fire and burn prevention and burn survivor support services, including Camp Beyond the Scars for burn-injured children. Over 800 San Diego firefighters volunteered for the 2015 Boot Drive.

Somali Family Service honored eight individuals at the Third Annual OceanLeaf Awards on Feb. 25. The event honors outstanding individuals and organizations that have advanced opportunities for East African immigrants and refugees in areas such as leadership, innovation, health and wellness, and economic development.

Millennium Health has partnered with the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation and Partnership for Drug-Free Kids’ Medicine Abuse Project to launch a campaign to increase awareness of the problem of prescription medicine abuse by youths. The Drop Them Off campaign features a website to provide education and resources to promote the safe use, storage and disposal of prescription drugs.

The JCC Patron Party was held on Mar. 7 at the Del Mar Country Club. Proceeds benefit the programs and services of the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center Jacobs Family Campus. Neiman Marcus presented a couture collection and floral designs. Other underwriters and contributors included Joan & Irwin Jacobs, Jerri Ann & Gary Jacobs, Northern Trust and City National Bank.

McDonalds campaign for Ronald McDonald House Charities

McDonald’s Restaurants is donating $1 for each shamrock shake purchased, to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego. The promotion also includes an outright donation to RMDHSD through $1 purchases of paper shamrocks, which are then signed and used to decorate local restaurants. All funds raised through March 30 support families whose children are battling life-threatening injuries and illnesses.

The Jewels of San Diego present The Jewels on Broadway on Mar. 14 at the Grand Del Mar. Proceeds benefit the Arc of San Diego whose mission is to empower individuals with disabilities to achieve their life goals. US Bank is the Diamond Sponsor. Other sponsors include California Bank & Trust, Sylvester Roofing Company and Merrill Lynch Wealth Management.

Fashion Week San Diego Preview

Harrah’s Resort Southern California is presenting Spring Showcase on Mar. 14, the first look from the 15 designers who will be presenting their collections at Fashion Week San Diego this fall. Founder and Director Allison Andrews will be making an announcement about the runway show’s location at the Harrah’s event.

Elderhelp Essence of Life Awards is being held on Mar. 15 at the Southwestern Yacht Club. Sponsors of Spring Fling include Sycuan Casino, Robbins Geller Rudman & Dowd, SDG&E, TyWebbDesign and US Bank. The event recognizes outstanding individuals, businesses and organizations that have made significant contributions to ElderHelp recently and throughout the years of serving the Greater San Diego community.

The Green Mile Fun Run St. Patrick’s Day half marathon is being held on Mar. 15 in downtown El Cajon. The Green Mile is designed for individuals with special needs. Proceeds benefit St. Madeleine’s Sophie Center.

Seventy-five Lincoln High School students attended the 17th National High Tech Day presented by the AT&T Hispanic/Latino Association, HACEMOS on Feb. 27 at the AT&T Trade Street Bldg. The event offered a window into careers in science, technology, engineering and math to minority high school students.

Doctors at Coleman & Coleman Dentistry are participating in Smiles for Life, a program that leverages specially-priced whitening treatments to donate to children’s charities. 50% is allocated to a charity of SFL’s choosing and 50% is allocated to an organization of the office’s choice. This year, Coleman selected Tri-City Hospital Foundation. The treatment funds received between now and June will benefit enhanced services and initiatives in the neonatal intensive care unit.
