On April 22 Cygnet Theatre held its gala, Gin & Jazz, An Evening of Indulgence Celebrating Season 15. The Gala was held at the El Cortez Hotel and raised $214,000 for artistic and educational programming. Bill and Judy Garrett were the Honorary Chairs. The leading sponsors were Leonard Hirsch and Molli Wagner.

The 33rd Annual Grossmont Hospital Invitational Golf Tournament was held at Sycuan Resort on April 20. The event raised $445,000 which exceeded last year’s record-breaking figure by $20,000. Proceeds will support priority initiatives related to patient services and programs at Sharp Grossmont Hospital benefiting the east county community including a new, state-of-the-art Heart and Vascular Center, David and Donna Long Cancer Center. Title sponsors included EDCO Disposal Corporation, Plum Healthcare Group and The Ensign Group.
United Way of San Diego County’s Changing the Odds Community Breakfast is being held on May 10 at San Diego Convention Center. The Champion Sponsor is Solar Turbine and the Visionary Sponsor is SDG&E, A Sempra Company. Other sponsors include AT&T, GEICO, Higgs, Fletcher, Mack, Jewish Family Service and Wells Fargo. Author Liz Murray will showcase the transformative power of education and the critical impact of a community that cares.
San Diego Habitat for Humanity and BAE Systems joined forces to provide upgrades to the home of Ray Chavez, who, at 105 years old, is the oldest living Pearl Harbor veteran. The project was made possible through Habitat’s Repair Corps program, funded by The Home Depot and other donors including BAE Systems, who has committed $10,000 to the program this year. BAE volunteers worked at the Poway residence on April 29 working on home preservation activities on the outside of the Chavez house, making fence repairs and painting.

Monarch School
Monarch School held its annual fundraiser celebrating 30 years, on April 27 at the Nat & Flora Bosa Campus. A total of $450,000 was raised thanks to sponsors Sycuan, Bumble Bee Seafoods, Home Street Bank, the Jack in the Box Foundation, University of San Diego and BAE Systems.
The SPARK Gala, an annual UC San Diego Health event is being held on May 13 at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar. Proceeds from the event will benefit research and patient care at Moores Cancer Center at UC San Diego Health, including the Center for Personalized Cancer Therapy. The Gala will honor the life and legacy of the late San Diego philanthropist Pauline Foster. Foster made a $7.5 million gift to establish the Pauline and Stanley Foster Pavilion for Cancer Care at Jacobs Medical Center.

Carlsbad Charitable Foundation
Carlsbad Charitable Foundation, an affiliate of The San Diego Foundation, celebrated its 10th year of giving at its Annual Grant Awards Celebration on April 26 at the Carlsbad Flower Fields. CCF awarded $60,000 to Interfaith Community Services to support the new Interfaith Recovery and Wellness Center in Carlsbad. The grant will enable the organization to hire a new full-time case manager to focus on triage, intervention and placement for substance-addicted individuals at the Recovery and Wellness Center.
San Diego County Credit Union served as Title Sponsor of the 2017 San Diego County Crime Stoppers “Enough is Enough” luncheon. Exemplary law enforcement professionals were recognized at a luncheon on April 20 at the Double Tree Hotel in Hazard Center. “SDCCU is proud to support the hard work and dedication of San Diego County Crime Stoppers. We appreciate the great work of all law enforcement officials in keeping our communities safe, and we applaud the individuals recognized at this year’s ‘Enough is Enough’ luncheon,” said SDCCU President and CEO Teresa Halleck.
