Promises 2 Kids presented the 7th annual Dream On 2015 Concert Gala on June 8 featuring Bonnie Raitt in concert. The event was held at the estate of Joan Waitt in La Jolla. ICWGroup Insurance Companies was the Presenting Sponsor. Major sponsors included Marc-Aaron Realtors, Southwest Airlines, Gatto, Pope, Walwick and Dowling&Yahnke. “We dream of a world where every child is safe, supported and loved. The youth we serve have already been through more than any child should have to experience,” said Tonya Torosian, CEO of Promises 2 Kids. The event raised $600,000 to support the programs of P2K.

The American Red Cross of San Diego/Imperial Counties concluded its Shelter OF Hope campaign raising $150,000 to support disaster relief efforts in the community. CEO Bill Earley lived in a mock shelter for nine days until the fundraising goal was met. Shelter OF Hope was developed as a way to showcase how critical donations are to ensuring the Red Cross mission. Petco Park and the San Diego Padres, Parkway Plaza, Westfield Carlsbad and Ciy of Carlsbad and Chula Vista Fire Station #4 partnered with RC serving as location sites for each day.

The San Diego Chapter of the Huntington’s Disease Society of America’s 14th annual Shoot for the Cure was held on June 13 at Chargers Park. The event was presented by Cymer, Inc. The event raised $53,000 which will serve research and education toward finding a cure, and providing support for those living with Huntington’s disease.
Club 3515, The Globe Gala, celebrating 80 Years, is being held on July 25 beginning with a reception in the San Diego Museum of Art Sculpture Garden, followed by a concert performance by Carmen Cusack, who starred in the Globe’s World Premiere musical, Bright Star. Proceeds will support the theatre’s education and artistic programs.
Junior Achievement’s 27th Annual Business Hall of Fame announced the visionary leaders who will be honored on Sept. 15 at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar. Four visionary leaders will be inducted in to the San Diego Business Hall of Fame. The are recognized for outstanding business and philanthropic leadership in the San Diego community. The 2015 Hall of Fame Laureates are: Rolf Benirschke, Tom Hom, Joanne Pastula and T. Denny Sanford.

AT&T has donated $45,000 to Urban Corps of San Diego to further the Corps-to-Career program supporting at-risk youth by keeping them on track with their educational and vocational goals. a Senator Ben Hueso joined AT&T representatives for the check presentation on June 27. “AT&T has helped change the lives of thousand of young adults and we are honored to work with them, and with strong community role models like Senator Hueso,” said Robert Chavez, CEO of Urban Corps.
California Senator Marty Block named Hernan Luis Y Prado as his District’s Veteran of the Year. Hernan, a former Navy vet, founded Workshops for Warriors. The organization trains vets for a career in manufacturing, an industry that is in need of candidates for employment.

The seventh annual Phil’s Big BBQ at the Ballpark was held on June 28. Total proceeds of $81,000 were donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County’s Operation Bigs, a one-to-one mentoring program that provides support to children and families with an active duty military parent. Phil’s BBQ’s Phil Pace launched the event seven years ago to support mentoring for military family children in San Diego. Sponsors included the San Diego Padres and Torrey Pines Bank as signature sponsors. Supporting sponsors were Coca-Cola, Wellness Natural Pet Food and Frank Subaru.
During the month of May, AT&T provided a $2 match for every $1 donated by employees and retirees to United Through Reading. A total of $32,655 goes to programs such as STEM, science, technology, engineering and math, the Summer Slide campaign to help young minds stay active during summer break. United Through Reading helps deployed service members tape personalized videos of themselves reading stories to their children at home.
