The 28th annual Fur Ball held on Aug. 16 raised $600,000. Sponsors for the event included Petco, Petco Foundation, EDCO, Hill’s Pet Nutrition, Phil’s BBQ, PetSafe, Underground Elephant, VCA Animals Hospitals and California Coast Credit Union. The masquerade themed evening offered a gourmet dinner catered by Chef Jeffrey Strauss and Pamplemousse Grill. All of the proceeds will support the animals in the San Diego community and will help fund vital community programs and services of SDHS and SPC. Chuck and Pilar Bahde were honored for their contributions to animals.

Camp Erin San Diego participates with Elizabeth Hospice staff and volunteers

Camp Erin San Diego participates with Elizabeth Hospice staff and volunteers

The Center for Compassionate Care of The Elizabeth Hospice hosts Camp Erin San Diego each summer in partnership with The Moyer Foundation. This annual weekend summer camp is open to children and teens who are grieving the death of someone close to them. Ellen Browning Scripps Foundation provided $30,000 and The French Fund donated $5,000 so that 100 children and teens had the opportunity to attend Camp Erin San Diego this year. “Camp Erin San Diego is a safe haven for kids who have experienced the loss of someone close to them,” said Doug Dawson, Executive Director Ellen Browning Scripps Foundation.

BOMA San Diego held their 2014 Backpack Drive and collected a total of 206 backpacks, 1,400 school supplies plus $585 in cash donations. All of the proceeds benefit Promises2Kids. The goal of the drive was to help make the back-to-school season brighter for the foster youth of San Diego.

RMD Group Ice Bucket Challenge

RMD Group Ice Bucket Challenge

On Aug. 18 team members of the RMD Group participated in the Bucket Challenge at Crown Point Shores. Approximately 100 people dumped ice water on their heads in unison to support ALS research and treatment. In addition RMD Group donated $1,000 in the name of Arturo Aguilar, Side Bar General Manager Pablo Aguilar’s father, who recently passed away from the disease.

The 11th annual “Harvest for Hope” benefitting the Emilio Nares Foundation is being held on Sept. 7 at the San Diego Wine and Culinary Event Center. The proceeds are used to support families with children battling cancer. The event includes tastings from San Diego restaurants and beverage purveyors. Some of the partners are: BANFI, Andesite Capital/CCG, Paul Hastings, LLP, Diego & Son Printing, Logan Capital Advisors and Manchester Financial Group.

Adventures in Wonderland

Adventures in Wonderland

Adventures in Wonderland is the theme for Girl Scouts San Diego’s Urban Campout on Sept. 12. Wells Fargo is the presenting sponsor. Other sponsors include QUALCOMM, San Diego Chargers, Chevron, Cubic, Delphi, KPBS and Sycuan Casino. The funds raised helps keep Girl Scouting available and affordable for local girls.

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s 2014 Challenge Walk is set for Sept. 5-7 along San Diego’s coastline. 200 people will walk 50 miles in three days beginning at Carlsbad’s Flower Fields and ending in Downtown San Diego. The Challenge Walk expects to raise $850,000 for MS research and programs and services for Southern Californians living with MS.

St. Paul’s LUV Gala – Cheryl Wilson & Jerry Sanders

St. Paul’s Senior Homes & Services held its 30th Annual LUV Gala on Aug. 23 at the Hilton San Diego Bay Front. Jerry Sanders and Rana Sampson were this year’s honorees. The event raised $130,000 which will benefit St. Paul’s Plaza, a residential and assisted living retirement community in the planned community of Otay Ranch, Chula Vista. Secure Transportation was the Presenting sponsor. Other sponsors included Sodexo Senior Living, PostalAnnex, UBS, La Jolla Pacific Development Group and Sharp Healthcare.
