We are excited to kick off this year’s Fourth Friday Jazz Series with Angie Wells, a force of nature who will leave you feeling captivated and uplifted after an evening of seriously swingin’ traditional jazz with a few relevant originals sprinkled in!

Angie Wells has a smoky, well-rounded voice that can give listeners goosebumps on a ballad and then get them tapping their feet when she swings. She captivates her audience with stunning costume changes, humorous banter, and a voice that keeps them hanging on every note. Angie feels every performance is a symbiotic exchange of energy between herself and her audience and gives her all.

Wells began her singing career in an intimate supper club in St. Germain des Pres in Paris when she joined the trio playing that night for a few tunes. Since then she has returned to France to tour with French pianist Raphael Lemonnier; one of their collaborations “She Ain’t The Kinda Girl” reached No. 4 on France’s Jazz Radio.

Wells was a semi-finalist in the first annual Sarah Vaughan International Vocal Competition, has hit the stage in jazz/music festivals in the US and France, and has performed and recorded with some of L.A.’s best jazz musicians – John Clayton, Bill Cunliffe, Larry Koonse, Joe LaBarbera, Henry Franklin, Josh Nelson – to name a few.

Angie’s sophomore recording project, TRUTH BE TOLD, was produced by the legendary John Clayton and released in 2023. A collection of original tunes and reimagined cover songs which speak to the truths of her life, it has received rave reviews and was just nominated for 2024 “Outstanding Jazz Album” by the NAACP Image Awards.
