Hiking: Cuyamaca or Bust

REI's new hiking series is for women only

By Erin Meanley Glenny

If sixth grade camp was the last time you went hiking in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park (and was it really a hike? More like a dawdle), here’s an opportunity for a do-over with your female peers. This month, REI Outdoor School is kicking off its new Cuyamaca Group Hike for Women Series.

With an expert guide, climb approximately 900 feet, going uphill for about 1.5 hours. (Total distance is 4 miles, with breaks). Lunch is the high point—at the peak, that is, with soaring views. The entire hike is Instagrammable (or bring that DSLR you didn’t have in elementary school), with possible sightings of deer, wild turkey, and red tailed hawks. REI will pick you up and drop you off at the REI store in Kearny Mesa (5556 Copley Drive). First hike is January 10. $25 for members, $45 for non-members
