La Jolla is upping its style quotient thanks to the arrival of Kenneth Barlis, whose couture fashions have rocked runways from Toronto to Barbados. The 27-year-old Filipino designer says his upbringing in Pagadian City influenced his love of bold colors and patterns—evident in his statement-making men’s suits and jackets.
“A guy should be able to wear a pink blazer and feel confident in his masculinity,” Barlis asserts. For a more modest approach, he suggests pairing his colorful blazers or pants with an all-black outfit. “Styling is everything.” Patterns change seasonally. Barlis also makes custom bridal and evening gowns, and just launched a ready-to-wear collection. Color us impressed.
