Grabbing a cold one from your grocery store? Amateur. Grabbing a cold one from your grocery store’s loading dock turned speakeasy? That’s next-level. Local, family-owned Barons Market recently launched Backroom Beer Pairings, where four times a year, its three San Diego County locations transform their loading docks and stock rooms into speakeasies for a hosted beer pairing. Both the food and the brews are sourced from the market, and each event spotlights one San Diego brewery: Modern Times is slated to partner for the March 16 event. Plus, 100 percent of the proceeds benefits a local food bank. Now that’s putting money where your mouth is.

$15, baronsmarket.com, all locations (Alpine, Point Loma, and Rancho Bernardo; plus Murrieta, Temecula, and Wildomar in Riverside County)
