Old Town, meet your wine bar.
There’s a new concept in town. It’s called a wine bar. And a new one just opened up! Old Town, meet Christopher’s on Congress (2935 Congress, the former Wine Cabana space). The 70-seat vino and beer bar from chef Chris Tatalovich—specializes in small plates (lamb lollipops w/ chimichurri), salads (heirloom spinach salad with house made balsamic) and panini’s, along with craft beer and small-batch wineries. Ever thought you’d hear John Salley and vegan wine in the same sentence? The former NBA power forward and avid vegan partnered with the small central California winery Clos LaChance last year to bottle a line of wines that use absolutely no animal products in the filtering process. And Christopher’s serves LaChance among its roster, with no item over $10 a galss or $30 a bottle. Tatalovich’s emphasis on small batch reaches his all-bottle beer selection, serving five from each from Quimera (Chili) and Rio Bravo (Mexico). Tatalovich grew up on Maui, slanging meats at his dad’s deli before buying his first restaurant, a pizza joint, at 19. Since then, he’s been Exec Chef at a couple Maui spots- La Pastaria and Hapa’s Brew Haus. On a side note, Steven Tyler once tried to hook the chef up with his daughter, Liv. Grab a glass of wine with the guy, chat about his exploits.
