Bottega Americano has a split personality, by design. It’s a starkly white and modern, yet firewood-lined, Italian eatery designed by Thomas Schoos (Searsucker, Puesto). It’s also a European market from respected SD food people Giuseppe Ciuffa, Greg Van de Velde (former manager of Mister A’s), chef David Warner, and investor Chad Ruyle. The menu boasts salumi (prosciutto San Daniele, duck prosciutto), cheeses (Robiola Tre Latti), Italian wines (Venetos, even a Lambrusco), panini (Italian Cubano with mortadella and finocchiona), pizzas (fennel sausage with cauliflower panna cream), house-made pastas, and entrees (lamb osso bucco with mascarpone polenta). It’s a lot to take in. Do so repeatedly. 1195 Island Avenue, East Village
