The San Diego County Fair may not be back till June, but you can still get a taste of carnival fare at Dunedin New Zealand Eats, where chef Ivan Laguna serves up their Fried Dough starter during brunch. It’s bite-size pieces of house-made funnel cake paired with Vermont maple syrup and a strawberry sauce that’s made fresh daily. “This dish plays off the ubiquitous fresh donuts found on many brunch menus,” Laguna says. “We wanted a fun starter that wasn’t too sweet or too heavy that people could easily share and that would still put a smile on their faces.”
