Kids’ health is a big concern, especially since that big bag of whatever-flavor Doritos look so tasty. Some of San Diego’s top chefs are joining with NHA to raise awareness for children’s nutrition. It’ll include a culinary demonstration and tastings of healthy creations. Chefs include Romesco’s Javier Plascencia (beef filet w/ chile verde ceviche), Bespoke Event’s Andrew Spurgin (cauliflower soup), Marine Room’s Bernard Guillas (red quinoa blue crab salad), Chad White (strawberry salad) and Deborah Scott (pipian rojo chicken). Michelle Obama has recognized NHA’s work for children’s health education.

Sta. Rita Hills in Santa Barbara is making a big push at wine awareness, and rightfully so. Some of the state’s best Pinots and Chardonnays come out of the region. They’ll look to prove that at this wine tasting and BBQ dinner that’ll bring reps from 20 wineries—Cargasacchi Wines, Clos Pepe, Cold Heaven Cellars, Dragonette, Fiddlehead Cellars, Foxen Winery, Kitá Wines, Ken Brown Wines, Kessler-Haak Vineyard & Wines, Lindley Wines, Pali Wine Company, etc.—to San Diego for the first time. The menu for the night will include grilled oysters, cheese plates, meat plates, crispy pork belly, Dungeness crab, brisket, baby back ribs, smoked whole chickens and dessert.

Stone’s annual barrel-aged and wood-infused brew festival is hitting the five-year mark. Led by cicerone Bill Sysak, it’ll feature over 100 beers from all sorts of producers (AleSmith, Aligash, Ballast Point, Lost Abbey, Russian River, The Bruery, Evil Twin, FiftyFifty, Mikkeller, etc.). Tickets will include a commemorative glass and 15 tasters (3 oz. each).
