Lumo Brings Chic Jewelry to Coronado

If Coronado’s Orange Avenue has been looking extra sparkly recently, it may be thanks to the new shop Lumo. Lucia Mouet’s line of delicate and fine jewelry just opened its first storefront this summer.
The 28-year-old designer from Sonora, Mexico specializes in dainty 14-karat gold necklaces and rings that are perfect for everyday layering and stacking. Her new brick-and-mortar space showcases much of that chic simplicity with muted grays, brassy details, a velvet bench, and a pink neon sign that reads: “Diamonds for Breakfast.”
Suffice it to say, Mouet is definitely speaking the cool-girl language. Every piece is designed and handcrafted on-site, as evidenced by two French doors in the back of the store that offer shoppers a peek inside Lumo’s workshop and creative process.
Best-sellers include anything with opals—”You’ll never find two opals that are exactly the same,” Mouet says—and gold chain necklaces, which can be personalized with initials, birthstones, and more. The shop also houses pieces that aren’t available online or elsewhere, and Mouet offers custom design services for shoppers with a specific idea of what they want.

No matter the style, she says jewelry is always personal. “Most people can remember exactly when and where they got each piece of jewelry they own, so it’s important to collect pieces that have special meaning. That way, you can layer on some pieces that match your outfit and your mood on any given day.”
