The spirit of partnership is alive and well in Southern California. The unique collaborations San Diego Gas & Electric® (SDG&E®) has with local businesses and organizations like Cajon Valley Union School District, The Plot, and MANA de San Diego are spreading good energy all across the region. Through these initiatives and transformative projects, SDG&E is living its commitment to building stronger, healthier communities.

Cajon Valley Union School District: Innovating for a Healthier Tomorrow

SDG&E and the Cajon Valley Union School District collaborated to install six bi-directional fast chargers at Cajon Valley’s bus yard in El Cajon. This innovative project allowed the school district to power eight electric school buses in their fleet. In addition to zero-emissions, these quieter, clean-energy buses are equipped with Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology, allowing them to return electricity to the grid during peak demand. It’s a win-win for our communities – reduced emissions on our roadways and increased energy on the grid when it’s needed most.

The Plot: A Culinary Revolution with Purpose

In 2023, The Plot’s commitment to sustainability earned them a Restaurants Care Grant, supported by SDG&E. The menu, created from the plants and vegetables flourishing in their on-site garden, highlights innovative use of ingredients like avocado seeds for mole sauce. Their zero-waste approach aligns with SDG&E’s own environmental efforts, such as diverting 100% of organic waste from landfills by 2030 and adhering to green building standards. Together, The Plot and SDG&E are showing how creativity and sustainability can benefit the community.

MANA de San Diego: Empowering Young Latina Leaders

Through collaborative mentorship programs, MANA de San Diego (MANA) and SDG&E are transforming lives. For nearly three decades, SDG&E has worked with MANA to help Latinas achieve success and leadership roles in the community. MANA’s programs empower Latina students and young adults, fostering individual achievements while also building a stronger, more inclusive community. Over the years, SDG&E has added strong, talented, educated MANA mentees to their workforce, proving that mentoring is a catalyst for positive change and success.

A Bright Future for San Diego

The joint efforts between SDG&E and these community collaborators — Cajon Valley Union School District, The Plot, and MANA de San Diego — are only a handful of the SDG&E programs that exemplify the power of partnership and the impact of good human energy. And together, they’re enriching lives and creating a path for a brighter, more sustainable, and inclusive future for everyone in the region.
