Scripps has long understood the value of treating the whole patient: mind, body and spirit. When parents suffer the loss of a child, Scripps steps in to help the family during their understandably difficult time. Scripps social workers, along with labor and delivery nurses, also offer condolences in the form of a memory box. Inside is a baby blanket, handprint and footprint card, and grief literature. They also give patients a soft, weighted teddy bear, called a Comfort Cub, to help ease the heartache. Scripps was an early adopter of Comfort Cubs, created nearly 25 years ago by Encinitas mom Marcella Johnson. Read the touching story behind Comfort Cubs here.
