Some photographers will do anything for the shot. For Fallbrook resident Eric Scire, that meant hanging out of a helicopter to capture the scene above Mission Beach.
“As we were flying down the coast, it was quite gloomy that day,” Scire says about taking flight with David Vernick from Icon Helicopters. “We passed Belmont Park, and it wasn’t quite nighttime yet, so the way it looked with all the lights on was awesome.”
Though Scire has shot from a chopper on multiple occasions—skydivers over Oceanside and a Baja Trophy Truck race in the desert near El Centro—the chopper’s constant vibration and motion still made for a unique challenge.
“After two loops, I finally got the angle I was seeking—also thanks to the great flying by the pilot. I was too excited.”
