Scott Murphy works as a professional photographer, specializing in medical photography on one end of the spectrum and San Diego cityscapes on the other. For this shot, the 36-year-old North Park resident stood on the 45th floor of the Pinnacle on the Park high-rise, looking over downtown from 475 feet in the air.
The biggest challenge? Photographing the panorama in one image. “Most rooftops do not have the right angle, and I could only capture parts of downtown,” he says. Murphy was finally able to show the entirety of the city using a wide-angle lens. “I wanted to capture a shot that would rival pictures of downtown New York or Chicago.”
It’s that pride for San Diego that encourages him to find new locations around town or reimagine his favorite places in new ways. “I probably work 60 hours a week, but I hardly consider it work.”
