In 50 years, Twyla Tharp has choreographed more than 160 works, including six Hollywood movies (Hair, Ragtime), four Broadway shows, and two figure skating routines—and picked up a Tony Award and two Emmys along the way. To celebrate, La Jolla Music Society is bringing her choreography—a blend of jazz, ballet, modern dance, and even boxing—to Spreckels Theatre on October 22 for the Twyla Tharp Dance 50th Anniversary Tour. Her troupe of dancers, including longtime member Matt Dibble, will revisit some of Tharp’s most notable pieces, like the square dance adaptation Country Dances, as well as a new routine set to Beethoven’s Opus 130. It may be fall, but they’ll put a spring in your step.
