Haute Headgear

By Kimberly Cunningham

Whether you’re a routine bettor or a racetrack novice, everyone knows Opening Day at Del Mar (July 17) is all about the hats. Enter local milliner Jill Courtemanche, whose artful designs have graced the heads of Yoko Ono, Donatella Versace, and Princess Mary of Denmark. Her Solana Beach brick-and-mortar offers a variety of styles, made with delicate materials like rabbit fur velvet and hand-woven Ecuadorian straw. Courtemanche also takes custom orders, and teaches monthly hatmaking classes. Private and small group lessons are available as well. Here’s hoping you win big this season, but if not, at least you’ll look fabulous in your fascinator—and that’s an exacta in our book! 410 South Cedros Avenue, Solana Beach
