We’ll Always Have Paris: A Mother/Daughter Adventure is a funny, honest, sometimes kooky memoir by San Diegan Jennifer Coburn (out on April 8). Coburn decides to embrace YOLO (You Only Live Once) and take her daughter Katie to Europe. The first-timers enjoy a budget-conscious ride through Paris and London when Katie is just eight years old. Three successive trips follow as Katie grows: Italy, Spain, and finally Amsterdam and Paris. All the typical—and atypical—experiences go down, from being swindled by a Roman cab driver to being arrested for trespassing in a Paris playground. The author comes off somewhat timid for someone who grew up in New York City (warning: flashbacks abound). But to read the book is to experience Europe anew, and relive all the wonder that travel brings.
