Frank Warren collects deep, dark secrets for this community arts project

By Sarah Pfledderer

There’s nothing juicier than knowing someone else’s secret. And that’s just part of the premise behind PostSecret, Frank Warren’s longtime community arts project and new exhibit at the San Diego Museum of Man.

Moved by his volunteer experience at a suicide hotline, Warren started the project 14 years ago as a way for people to sympathize with one another’s problems—personal, sexual, sociopolitical, or otherwise—via handmade postcards adorned with confessions mailed to him anonymously from around the world and uploaded to his blog.

Thousands of them will be on display at the exhibit, along with some new local submissions. A PostSecret Street Team has been hosting pop-up postcard-making stations around San Diego and collecting spoken secrets via voicemail in advance of the exhibit opening.

Submit yours at 619-269-3894. Confession is officially in session.
