Paul Basile believed in Barrio Logan’s artistic potential before it became trendy. In 2005, the local designer launched Guild Restaurant—a sleek eatery that was a novelty for the downtown nabe at the time. He’s since designed Instagram-worthy spots around town like Little Italy’s Ironside Fish & Oyster, but now he’s returned to the barrio to open the art and design gallery basileIE. (“IE” for “ideas and experiments.”)
A partnership with Chris Martino, the space showcases exhibits that flow through Martino’s adjacent gallery, CM Curatorial. Beginning August 13, they’ll highlight work by local artists Matt Stallings and Matt Forderer, and in October, look for a cross-border series with Baja artists.
