This weekend is a big one for country fans, with KSON Countryfest coming to Gallagher Square and genre star Kelsea Ballerini performing at Pechanga Arena, both on Saturday night. If the Studio 54 experience is more your style, try the funk-filled Mustache Bash at Mariner’s Point. Meanwhile, sports fans can cheer on the Mojo and the Wave and see a high-intensity Liga MX matchup between Chivas and Xolos. Whether you’re into music, sports, or lively themed parties, there’s no shortage of exciting things to do in San Diego this weekend. Chula Vista’s Taste of Third 

March 20 

Over 25 participating eateries, bars, and bakeries on Third Avenue will open their doors for the Downtown Chula Vista Association’s Taste of Third. This Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m., attendees can listen to live music and explore the neighborhood offerings while checking off every restaurant on their “taste passport.” Samples include bites like garlic fries, mini scones, and Hawaiian breakfast sliders. Tickets are $55 for Taste of Third.

Susan G. Komen San Diego Impact Luncheon at Mister A’s

March 21

Mister A’s will be the site of the first-ever Susan G. Komen San Diego Impact Luncheon this Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Susan G. Komen San Diego brings together donors, patients, and survivors for an afternoon of breast cancer awareness and resource fundraising that will include silent and live auctions. The luncheon will be hosted by Sam Zien (AKA Sam the Cooking Guy) and his wife Kelly, a breast cancer survivor. Tickets are $150 and come with a specialty welcome drink, lunch, and a gift for attendees.

Concerts & Festivals in San Diego This Weekend

San Diego Latino Film Festival

March 19-23

Catch screenings of Latino-led cinema at AMC Mission Valley and Digital Gym Cinema during the 32nd annual San Diego Latino Film Festival. There will be a number of special events, such as the opening night party at El After Social Club (Wednesday) and the closing night concert and Taste of Sabor Latino Celebration at UCSD Park & Market (Saturday). Ticket options include the Film Pass ($120), priority seating Festival Pass ($200), and all-access VIP Pass ($300).

The Mustache Bash

March 22

If disco is dead, don’t tell the creators of The Mustache Bash. This Saturday, this disco shindig is bringing the funk to Mariner’s Point with bottomless bars, a roller rink, disco DJs, and a music lineup headlined by electro-funk group Chromeo. Attendees are encouraged to dress in ’70s style attire, whether it be bell bottoms or a thick ’stache. The bash begins with a preparty Friday night at Good Night John Boy ($20) and will close with an afterparty Saturday at Mavericks Beach Club ($45). General admission ($159) and VIP ($279) tickets are available for purchase.

KSON Countryfest at Gallagher Square

March 22

Local country music station KSON—which can be found at 103.7 FM—hosts KSON Countryfest this Saturday at Gallagher Square, with performances by Justin Moore, Warren Zeiders, Nate Smith, and the Morgan Leigh Band. Tickets start at $79.

Kelsea Ballerini with Japanese House and Marynn Taylor at Pechanga Arena

Kelsea Ballerini’s candid, pop-infused ballads have made her a staple of country radio. See the star this Saturday at Pechanga Arena, with indie pop artist The Japanese House and country singer MaRynn Taylor opening. Tickets start at $42 for this concert.

An Artful Life: A Tribute to Matthew C. Strauss at the Museum of Contemporary Art

March 20–August 3

Artwork from the Strauss Family Trust, the extraordinary private collection of prominent San Diego philanthropist Matthew C. Strauss (who passed away in 2024) and his wife Iris, will have a rare public run with An Artful Life: A Tribute to Matthew C. Strauss at MCASD. Dating from the 1970s to the 2020s, the 22 pieces on display will showcase the evolution in contemporary painting trends. Art lovers can visit the exhibition on its opening day this Thursday at 5 p.m.—which also happens to be the museum’s Free Third Thursday, with a guided tour of the exhibition being offered at 5 p.m.

Trinity Irish Dance Company at the Balboa Theatre

March 21

Led by founder, artistic director, and choreographer Mark Howard, the Trinity Irish Dance Company has been evolving Irish step dance for the modern age since 1990. The repertory company will showcase their talents at Friday night performance at the Balboa Theatre, presented by ArtPower at UC San Diego. Tickets start at $48.

Salome at the Civic Theatre

March 21–23

Based on Oscar Wilde’s play of the same name, Richard Strauss’ Salome follows the dark tale of the Biblical character Salome, whose attraction to John the Baptist sets off a tragic chain of deaths. The cast of the San Diego Opera will sing Salome’s unsettling score in German (with English and Spanish text visible above the stage), backed by the orchestral talents of the San Diego Symphony. There will be pre-opera talks 50 minutes prior to each of the three performances and talkbacks with the cast following Saturday and Sunday’s shows. Tickets start at $77 for Salome.

La Havana Madrid at New Village Arts

March 21–April 27 

Inspired by a real-life Chicago supper club and the people who inhabited it, Sandra Delgado’s La Havana Madrid, centers on new beginnings for Latino immigrants in the 1960s. Following a week of previews (March 21–28), the show will officially open at Carlsbad’s New Village Arts on March 29. Tickets for upcoming performances of La Havana Madrid start at $40.

Yang Jiang: I Thought I’d Be Braver at the Athenaeum Art Center 

March 22-May 10

San Diego–based artist and therapist Yang Jiang lets her emotions guide the art in I Thought I’d Be Braver, her debut solo exhibition and the newest addition to the Catherine and Robert Palmer Gallery at the Athenaeum Art Center. Jiang’s exhibition will open with a reception on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m.

San Diego Mojo vs. Orlando Valkyries at Viejas Arena 

March 19

The San Diego Mojo, one of the eight founding members of the Pro Volleyball Federation (launched in 2024), will face the Orlando Valkyries this weekend. Mojo players to watch out for on the court include outside hitter (and Bonsall native) Kendra Dahlke and all-star middle blocker Ronika Stone. The first 1,000 fans through the gates for Wednesday’s match against the Valkyries at Viejas Arena will receive a green and white St. Paddy’s Day scarf. Tickets start at $23

San Diego Wave FC vs. Utah Royals FC

March 22

The San Diego Wave got off to a promising start in their first match of the season Sunday, earning a draw against Angel City FC. Coming off of last year’s turbulent and controversial campaign, this new-look Wave squad still has lots of potential, especially with the creative playmaking talents of María Sánchez and Delphine Cascarino and captain Kailen Sheridan holding down the fort in goal. For their home opener, the Wave will face the Utah Royals. Tickets start at $21 for this match kicking off Saturday at 7 p.m.

San Diego Half Marathon & 5K

March 23

See the sights of downtown San Diego during the GOVX San Diego Half Marathon & 5K, a fun running tour of the city and one-third of the SoCal Triple Crown. Runners can either take part in a classic 3.1 mile run (5K) or bravely up it by another 10 miles and tackle the half marathon. Following the race, there will be a finish line festival with a DJ and vendors. Runners will receive a souvenir cinch bag with refueling foods and a carton of chocolate milk. Registration is $73 for the 5K and $175 for the half marathon.

Chivas de Guadalajara vs. Xolos de Tijuana at Snapdragon Stadium

March 23

San Diegans will have the chance to see Liga MX action stateside as Chivas de Guadalajara and Xolos de Tijuana clash Sunday afternoon at Snapdragon Stadium. This match, part of the Chivas’ continental Rebaño Tour, will be a cross-border soccer showcase for two Mexican teams with passionate local fan bases. To celebrate the occasion, ticketholders can stop by a fan fest held outside the stadium before kickoff and enjoy live music, food, and more. Tickets start at $74 for this matchup.
