The Center is the oldest accredited children’s non-profit organization, offering comprehensive therapeutic programs and specialized education for children and teens struggling with behavioral, emotional and educational challenges. The evening netted $280,000 to benefit the Center’s treatment and educational programs. Sponsors included Southwest Airlines, ResMed Foundation, Union Bank, PAR Electric and U.S. Grant Hotel.

The Maritime Museum of San Diego received a $5 million donation from Dan McKinney, a long-time supporter of the Museum. McKinney’s gift will initiate a planning process that will transform the Museum which will include a physical reorganization and the development of a floating gateway structure that will welcome and orient visitors to the maritime experience. “This is a wonderful testament of support for the Museum and its programs,” said Dr. Raymond Ashley, President and CEO of the Maritime Museum.

St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center received a $10,000 grant from Bank of America to fund the Center’s Work Activity Program which helps SMSC students prepare for and find employment in San Diego County. The program responds to the employment needs of 280 developmentally disabled adults of the Center’s enrollment of 400 individuals.
San Diego Chargers’ outside linebacker Melvin Ingram hosted the First Annual Chargers and Chops on June 1. The event raised $125,000 for Ingram’s Mission Possible Foundation. The purpose of the foundation is to provide inner city and low-income children with educational opportunities and resources. Programs include Mission: Christmas and Melvin’s Reading Stations.
The UC San Diego Mitochondrial and Metabolic Disease Center held its Third Annual Mito 5K – Run, Walk and Roll event on May 16 at Liberty Station to support research for mitochondrial disease. Sycuan Youth Council and Sycuan Casino was the platinum sponsor of the event.

Volunteers from Union Bank Consumer Lending Group volunteered to participate in a day-long home building event in San Diego Habitat for Humanity’s Elm Street Community in Escondido on June 6. Union Bank is a sponsor of the Elm Street Community and has donated $15,000 through its Foundation to SDHFH. The bank also sponsored the Women Build event in May.
The Home of Guiding Hands 41st Annual Gala was held on June 6 at the Hotel Del Coronado. A total of $80,000 was raised for infants, adolescents and adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities in San Diego and Imperial Counties. Sponsors included The Heramb Charitable Foundation, Marrs Maddocks and Associates, Quick-Dry Flood Services, Torrey Pines Bank, Union Bank, California Bank & Trust and San Diego County Credit Union.
The 26th annual Taste of Point Loma was hosted by the Peninsula Chamber of Commerce on Apr. 22. A check in the amount of $628 was presented to the Point Loma Association which was a portion of the proceeds from the event. The Association’s Mean Green Team provides enhancements to the Point Loma neighborhoods by planting, trimming, weeding and picking up trash and debris.

Byron Roth, Chairman and CEO of Roth Capital, received special recognition at the ninth annual “A Celebration of Heroes, Heart and Hope” gala presented by the Challenged Athletes Foundation. The celebration was held at the Waldorf Astoria New York to raise funds for its Access for Athletes Grant Program, which provides adaptive sports equipment, travel and training expenses to challenged athletes around the world. Roth was recognized for his dedication to embracing the organization’s mission through personal and company-sponsored philanthropic efforts that have raised $700,000 for the CAF.
