Netting a Win Over Lung Cancer

How screenings and early detection led to a lifesaving diagnosis

Dennis Higginbottom smoked cigarettes for nearly 50 years. Though those days are behind him, the 76-year-old remained aware that his habit put him at higher risk for developing lung cancer. Last year, he received the dreaded diagnosis. However, thanks to Scripps’ comprehensive lung cancer screening program, the cancer was found at a relatively early stage. He underwent robotic-assisted, video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery, and today, Higginbottom is healthy and is grateful for the lifesaving care he received. Read more of Higginbottom’s story and about Scripps’ Jana Oliphant Hackett Lung Cancer Screening Program here.
